Statewide Florida coverage

Car insurance in Florida, compared across multiple carriers

CityCoast Insurance is a licensed 2-20 independent agency based in Miami and serving drivers across Florida. We explain what the state actually requires, why Florida rates run high, and shop your policy with several carriers before you buy.

What car insurance is required in Florida?

Every registered vehicle in Florida must carry at least $10,000 of PIP and $10,000 of PDL. That is the legal floor — here is what each coverage does and where most drivers end up underinsured.

Personal Injury Protection (PIP) — $10,000

Florida is a no-fault state. PIP pays 80% of covered medical bills and 60% of lost wages for you and household members no matter who caused the crash. Treatment generally has to begin within 14 days of the accident.

Property Damage Liability (PDL) — $10,000

Covers damage you cause to another person's vehicle or property. It never repairs your own car.

Bodily Injury Liability — strongly recommended

Not required of most Florida drivers, but the state minimum leaves your savings and wages exposed the moment an at-fault injury claim passes $10,000.

Uninsured / Underinsured Motorist

Florida has one of the highest uninsured-driver rates in the country. UM pays your injury costs when the at-fault driver carries nothing or too little.

Comprehensive & Collision

Required by virtually every lender or lessor, and the only coverage that repairs your own vehicle after a collision, theft, flood or hurricane.

Why is car insurance so expensive in Florida?

Florida consistently ranks among the most expensive states for auto coverage. The biggest drivers of that are structural, not personal:

  • Hurricane and flood exposure drives up claim severity statewide, from the Panhandle to the Keys.
  • High uninsured-motorist and litigation rates push loss costs above the national average.
  • Dense, tourist-heavy traffic corridors in Miami-Dade, Broward, Orlando and Tampa raise accident frequency.
  • Vehicle repair and total-loss costs have climbed faster than premiums in recent years.
  • Your ZIP code, driving record, vehicle, annual mileage and chosen deductibles all move the number.

You cannot change the state's loss trends, but you can change which carrier prices your risk — and the spread between carriers on the same driver is often substantial.

How we lower what you pay

  • Independent 2-20 agency — we compare multiple Florida carriers side by side instead of quoting one company.
  • We right-size limits and deductibles instead of defaulting to the bare state minimum.
  • Multi-policy discounts when you bundle auto with home, condo, renters, flood or umbrella.
  • Coverage reviewed at every renewal, so you are not paying for a rate increase you never shopped.
  • Same-day quote follow-up, in English or Spanish.

What we need for a quote

  1. Your ZIP code and every driver on the policy
  2. Year, make and model of each vehicle
  3. Current coverage limits, if you have a policy today
  4. Whether the vehicle is financed or leased
